⎯ This paper reports the speedup improvement of sorting of floating-point numbers. It shortens the computing time significantly by applying integer arithmetic on floating-point data with IEEE-754 standard or a similar kind. Our few Gigabyte sorting achieves about five-fold speedups on internal sort only, and two-fold or more improvement over NOW-sort. Potential applications of the method include numerical simulation and visualization.
